Director General's Page

Dear Vnukovo Airport website visitors,

It is not long before our Airport will be celebrating it's 70th Anniversary. Vnukovo's history has always been connected with the great events that shaped our nation's destiny. It was here at Vnukovo that many a successful service life of Russia's best civil aircraft types began, as well as the careers and the subsequent growth in skill and mastery of numerous civil aviation specialists who went on to become  the creme de la creme of the industry's workforce.

A whole new stage in the Airport's development began seven years ago, however - an age of comprehensive transformation. I will not go far wrong by stating that as all-encompassing and intensive a modernization Vnukovo has never seen before. And most importantly, this gargantuan effort has been completed without even once halting the Airport's mainline operations, which at first had seemed to be an impossibility.

A truly colossal amount of work has been done over these past few years and it has meant nothing short of a new lease on life for the legendary Airport. An all-new passenger terminal has been constructed, along with two multilevel car parks, a high-tech mail & cargo terminal, and an ATC tower/center, spectacular new roadway access infrastructure has been added, as well as numerous other impressive innovations.

The truly cornerstone project of course was the construction of the new passenger terminal, the total floor space of which is ten times the size of that of the Airport's existing International Terminal B. It goes without saying that a design that grand could not have materialized without the hard work and talent on the part of and heated arguments and many a sleepless night for a great number of people - the designers, architects, civil engineers and construction workers, businessmen and other top-class experts and specialists.

Even as early on as today, the expert community is unanimous in pronouncing the new terminal a unique structure. And it was no fluke that the original concept of the facility won a gold medal at Brussels Eureka 2006 World Exhibition of Innovation, Research, and New Technology. A host of innovations and groundbreaking civil engineering solutions have been incorporated to offer a significantly improved standard of passenger service quality and they are likely to impress even the most discerning of our air travelers. The terminal, filled as it is with latest technology of every kind, and making ample use of glazing and advanced lighting systems, will be awash in light and festive ambience combining to create a sense of joy prior to a flight.

The construction of this sprawling structure has - over a four-year period - united us in the desire to create the most attractive, comfortable, and modern air terminal in the country. The way it looks today, proves the task has been a success. For me personally, as well as for a great many of us here at Vnukovo, being part of this project has become an important fact and a milestone in life and personal achievement. I am positive that the new terminal will not only open up a range of new opportunities for Vnukovo International, but will also become a historical milestone for Russia's civil aviation as a whole.

Such grand-scale a project would not have been possible without the proactive and comprehensive backing on the part of the Government of Moscow, which - since the start of the renovation effort - has been a major driving force behind all the change at Vnukovo, transforming the AIrport before our very eyes.

I sincerely hope, our dear air travelers, that Vnukovo will shortly become not only the most advanced and comfortable, but also your favorite airport in our nation's Capital. It is then only that we will be assured beyond all doubt that our efforts have not been in vain and the desired goal has been reached.
