Vnukovo International has become the first airport in the Moscow Air Transport Cluster to welcome the Sukhoi Superjet-100 regional airliner. On Tuesday, April 7, a flight-test example of the all-new regional twinjet made a short hop to Vnukovo from the Gromov Flight Research and Testing Institute's airfield located in the Moscow Area, South-East of the Metropolis, and where the other two test specimens of the type are currently in the middle of a comprehensive flight-testing program, expected to result in the regional jet's international type certification.
The entire Superjet aircraft family of which the SSJ-100 is the firstborn as it were, was conceived to embody the latest design trends and world-class standards in eco-friendliness, as well as the operational flexibility of a regional jet combined with the capabilities of mid-range airliners, typically operated on high-density trunk routes. The product line will feature advanced levels of performance and efficiency, enabling it to compete successfully with similar projects in the global market.
The same day of April 7 saw a formal agreement-signature ceremony between the Russian company of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCA) and the Alenia Aeronautica of Italy, rendering official the latter's intent to acquire a stake in the Russian company. The event took place at the Vnukovo-3 General Aviation Center, a member of the Vnukovo Group of Companies, and was attended by Victor Khristenko, the RF Minister of Industry and Trade, Claudio Scajola, Italy's Minister of Economic Development, Mikhail Pogosyan, Director General of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, President of the Italian Heavy Engineering Holding Finmeccanica (owners of Alenia Aeronautica).

The Sukhoi Superjet-100 family of regional aircraft is the venture's debut project aimed at building a radically new and advanced regional AC family in Russia. The formal roll-out of the type's first example took place on September 26, 2007 at the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where it will be assembled from now on. It was there as well, that the aircraft first took to the air in May 2008, and successfully completed its maiden flight. Sukhoi Civil Aircraft currently holds 98 firm orders for the type.
