A.N. Tupolev

One the greatest aeronautical engineers, organizer of domestic aircraft production, professor and also a three-time Hero of the Socialist Labor, Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev, was the leader in the making of a whole series of passenger and military aircraft.

The history of Vnukovo International Airport is inextricably linked to this renowned aircraft engineer. At Vnukovo, the best aviation experts created and tested air transport technologies as well as their own skills. Vnukovo was the starting point of the first passenger flights for Il-12, Il-14, Il-18, Il-86, Tu-104, Tu-114, Tu-124, Tu-134, Tu-154, Tu-204 and the Tu-204-300.

In 2019, the airport was named after Andrei Tupolev by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation following the results of a national contest called, `The Great Names of Russia’. A portrait bust of the great aircraft engineer himself was installed on the territory of the airport.

No other name in national aviation is as important as the name, Andrei Tupolev, who made a huge contribution to the development of the aviation industry and left a great legacy.
