Vnukovo International Airport Took Part in the Scientific and Technical Seminar of the Federal Agency for Air Transport

The scientific and technical seminar, the main topic of which was «Bird Strike Prevention», was held at the Double Tree by Hilton Moscow — Vnukovo Airport 4* hotel complex. It was organized by the Federal Agency for Air Transport. In his opening speech at the round table, Head of Airport Operations Department of the Federal Agency for Air Transport Alexander Averkiev noted that bird strike prevention plays one of the key roles in ensuring safety and preservation of aircraft equipment and also stressed the importance of continuously improving the processes of bird control and interaction of all the participants of the aviation industry to make prevention activities even more effective. The attendees discussed performance indicators of Russia’s air transport, issues of flight support at airfields, new technologies at Russia’s airports and development of rules for bird strike prevention for civil flights. Additionally, they touched upon issues related to the effective wildlife control. Mikhail Belousov, Head of Airfield Service at Vnukovo International Airport, delivered a report on «Means and methods of controlling birds and stray animals at an airfield». He spoke how bird strike prevention is organized at Vnukovo Airport and gave a presentation on existing and applied methods of bird control, including bird deterrent devices. Also, Mikhail Belousov analyzed the effectiveness of the measures taken, as well as the procedure for organizing and implementing additional measures for an uninterrupted operation on the territory of the airfield. The scientific and technical seminar featured representatives of the Federal Agency for Air Transport, the Federal Service for Supervision of Transport (Rostransnadzor), Public Prosecutor’s Office, environmental and scientific organizations as well as bird control services and divisions of other Russia’s airports.

Vnukovo International Airport is one of the largest air transport facilities in Russia. The airport handles about 200,000 flights of Russian and foreign airlines annually. Its network covers the whole territory of Russia as well as near and far-abroad countries, Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa. In 2019, Vnukovo International Airport broke a historical record and served more than 24 million passengers which is 11,7% or 2.5 million passengers more than in 2018. Vnukovo airport terminal with a total area of about 300,000 square meters is able to handle up to 35 million passengers per year. Vnukovo International Airport is the only airport in Russia to have received Letter of Commendation from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for labor achievements and high performance. Moreover, Vnukovo Airport was recognized as the Best International Airport by Air Gateway of Russia award and Best Airport: overcoming challenges 2020 at National Aviation Infrastructure Show (NAIS) for three consecutive years.
