views 1039

Vnukovo International Airport will be the first airport in Russia that can be reached by metro. Construction of the Solntsevskaya metro line is proceeding according to schedule. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin visited the site today to check on progress. «Moscow citizens will have a new and quick way to get to Vnukovo Airport. It will take about 40 minutes to travel the 30 km distance and get directly from the station to the airport terminal,» said the mayor.

The construction of the future Vnukovo Airport metro station is underway, with installation of basic structures, reconstruction of engineering communications, and finishing operations. The construction is 60% complete.

Anton Kuznetsov, Deputy CEO of Sales at Vnukovo International Airport, JSC, said: «This project is a significant milestone in the development of our airport. Vnukovo is going to be the first airport in Russia with its own metro station. Passengers will be able to get from anywhere in Moscow directly to the airport terminal for the price of one metro ride. Once the metro station is opened, we expect an increase in passenger traffic, because comfort, flexibility and convenience are important for everyone.»

Dmitry Babkin, Director for Investment and Property Management of Vnukovo International Airport, JSC, added: «The Vnukovo Airport metro station will add another option of getting to and from the airport, so that travelers can pick the most convenient way for them. Soon they will be able to use Aeroexpress, bus, taxi, carsharing or metro to get to the terminal. We would like to thank the Government of Moscow for the opportunity to provide greater convenience for our passengers, partners and employees.

Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations and Ecommerce, Flydubai, said: «On behalf of Flydubai Airlines, I thank Vnukovo Airport for its longstanding, reliable partnership, which has enabled us to consistently increase our passenger traffic, and we look forward to growing it further. The opening of a Moscow metro station right at the airport will be a new milestone and a turning point for the airport and airlines flying from Vnukovo. The first projects of this kind were implemented at the airports of Boston, Cleveland and London, and then in many hubs around the world. The experience of other countries clearly demonstrates the advantages of metro lines serving airports. Moreover, the Solntsevskaya line will connect Vnukovo not only with the historical center of Moscow, but also with its main business center at Moscow-City. Given the superior accessibility of Vnukovo compared with other airports of the Moscow Aviation Hub, having a seamless, comfortable and almost 24/7 means of transport will make the services of Vnukovo and airlines flying from the airport unique, diversified, reliable and convenient for travelers. We look forward to the opening of the Vnukovo Airport metro station!»

The underground passage of the Vnukovo Airport station will have exits to Terminal A, the underground terminal of Aeroexpress, the terminal square, and 1st Reysovaya Street. It is expected that over 22,000 passengers will be using the metro station every day.
