Vnukovo International Airport has become the first one in Russia, enabling reached by metro

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened two subway stations on the Solntsevskaya Line in Moscow, enabling rides all the way to the Vnukovo Airport. The trip from Moscow city center to the Vnukovo Airport on the line takes about 40 minutes. By car, the journey takes about 1 Ѕ hours.

Opening the first metro station in Russia integrated into the airport infrastructure, is a landmark event not only for Moscow, but also for all civil aviation in general, and especially for Vnukovo Airport, since the implementation such a unique infrastructure project will create an exclusive service for air passengers and bring transport services to residents and guests of Moscow to a qualitatively new level.

According to Vitaly Vantsev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vnukovo Airport, worldwide there are units of airports that are connected to the city by a metro system with direct access to the terminals. «The launch of the metro station is a completely new stage in the development of Vnukovo International Airport, which will emphasize the exclusivity of our airport, as well as give passengers the opportunity to choose the most convenient and fastest way for them to get to the terminal. We personally thank Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and his team for providing an opportunity to increase the level of comfort for our employees, partners and managers», he said.

Vnukovo International Airport is one of the largest air transport hubs in Russia, with around 200 thousand flights operated by both the Russian Federation and foreign air carriers, handled here every year. The airport’s route network covers the entire territory of Russia, as well as countries of near and far abroad. In 2019 Vnukovo International Airport broke a historical record and served over 24 million passengers. The Vnukovo airport complex with a total area of about 300 thousand sq. m. is capable of providing a capacity of up to 35 million passengers per year. Vnukovo International Airport, the only one among the airports in Russia, has the Gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for labor achievements and high results in professional activities. Furthermore, Vnukovo Airport was recognized as the best airport in the highest category «International Airport» of the national award «Air Gates of Russia» for three consecutive years as part of the National Aviation Infrastructure Show (NAIS).
