views 536

On the eve of celebrations of the 77th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Vnukovo International Airport has traditionally joined the St George’s Ribbon campaign, held under the motto «I remember! I’m proud!»

In Terminal A, Vnukovo Airport employees and representatives of the Volunteers of Victory Russian social movement handed out St George’s ribbons to everyone.

The event was organized by the Volunteers of Victory Russian social movement. Regional branches of Volunteers of Victory act as coordinators in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The events take place not only in Russia, but also in other countries, for example in Kazakhstan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Serbia, Lebanon, and Tunisia. Over the period of the campaign, millions of people in the Russian Federation and other countries around the world voluntarily attach the St George’s ribbon — a symbol of military glory — to their clothes, publicly demonstrating their respect for the soldiers who fought for their homeland during the Great Patriotic War.

Starting May 5, veterans of the Great Patriotic War arriving in the capital to see the Victory Parade with their own eyes have been met at the airport by Vnukovo Airport staff and volunteers, who help the honored guests and those accompanying them to find their way around the terminal, guide them to comfortable waiting areas to wait for the free transport that will take them to their hotels. Parking spaces for vehicles carrying out transfers to the veterans' accommodation have been allocated on the forecourt.

On the eve of Victory Day, Vnukovo International Airport traditionally welcomes passengers and guests of the airport complex with festive decorations. The airport terminals are decorated with banners, and the forecourt is decorated with groups of flags. Congratulations will be announced  in the passenger terminals on May 9. Unique photographs of Vnukovo aviators who went on to be veterans of the Great Patriotic War are already being shown on video screens, along with videos dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the Victory and congratulatory posters on lightboxes.

According to tradition, the Airport of our Victory exhibition was opened on the territory of Vnukovo Airport. This is a large-scale photo project dedicated to the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, devoted to the aviators of Vnukovo Airport, who did everything in their power to liberate our country and all mankind from the fascist invaders.

The photo project includes nine blocks recounting the activities of the Moscow Special Purpose Aviation Group (MAGON) in key strategic operations of the Great Patriotic War, the performance of complex combat missions, whose successful implementation brought Victory Day closer. The photo project also features unique footage of the formation of Vnukovo Airport as a military airfield at the very beginning of the war, the participation of Vnukovo aviators in the battle for Moscow, the evacuation of the wounded, and the supply of weapons and ammunition, food and medicines to besieged Leningrad, flaming Stalingrad,  and beleaguered Sevastopol, the landing of troops behind enemy lines, the support for partisan detachments fighting behind the lines of the Wehrmacht, and finally the celebrations at Vnukovo on May 9, 1945. You can visit the exhibition until the end of May, admission is free for all visitors.

During the preparations for the exhibition, photographic materials were provided by the Vnukovo District Historical Museum (the Exposition and Exhibition Department of the GBUK of Moscow KC Vnukovo), as well as PJSC Tupolev.
