Tunnels of New Moscow Metro Station at Vnukovo Airport Are Completed

views 309

For the first time in Moscow’s history, a metro line will be extended directly to Vnukovo Airport. It’s a unique project even on a global scale. To date, the construction workers have completed the tunnels of the future section of the Solntsevskaya line. The company Mosinzhproekt is a general designer and general contractor for the construction of the new lines and stations. The stretch from the Pikhtino station to the Vnukovo station is now completed and the last tunnel in the section has been finished. The construction of the Vnukovo station, which will be integrated directly into the airport terminal, is now in full swing. At the moment, there are finishing works in the lobby and the traction substation area where the main technical rooms will be located. The teams are making brick partitions, do plastering and wall painting, as well as laying porcelain stoneware floor tiles. The main structures of the lobby are almost done, but the builders still have to finish a monolithic construction in the ticketing area and build an inclined escalator tunnel. When all the work is completed, passengers will be able to leave the new station via the underground passage leading to our Terminal A and to Aeroexpress trains, or through the ground pavilion to the airport square. The project will reduce the average time it takes to get from Moscow’s downtown to the airport by 40 minutes. Dmitry Babkin, Director of Investment and Property Management of Vnukovo International Airport, noted, «There are only a few airports in the world that have dedicated metro lines. Certainly, the launch of the station is a landmark event for further development of Vnukovo International Airport. Passengers will have a unique opportunity that no other Russian airport can offer: getting from anywhere in Moscow to the airport at a price of a metro ride. Launch of the metro station is expected to increase passenger traffic because everyone appreciates the comfort and flexibility, especially when they are affordable. Additionally, passengers traveling to and from Vnukovo will be able to choose any type of transport that is suitable for them: Aeroexpress trains, bus, taxi, carsharing or metro. We are grateful to the Government of Moscow for the opportunity to make trips more comfortable for our passengers, partners and employees.»

Vnukovo International Airport is one of the largest air transport facilities in Russia. The airport handles about 200,000 flights of Russian and foreign airlines annually. Its network covers the whole territory of Russia as well as near and far-abroad countries, Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa. In 2019, Vnukovo International Airport broke a historical record and served more than 24 million passengers which is 11,7% or 2.5 million passengers more than in 2018. Vnukovo airport terminal with a total area of about 300,000 square meters is able to handle up to 35 million passengers per year. Vnukovo International Airport is the only airport in Russia to have received Letter of Commendation from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for labor achievements and high performance. Moreover, Vnukovo Airport was recognized as the Best International Airport by Air Gateway of Russia award and Best Airport: overcoming challenges 2020 at National Aviation Infrastructure Show (NAIS) for three consecutive years.
